In this video we watched part 3 of the Big Bang Cosmology. Here, we learned about the case for an intelligent designer…someone that “fine-tuned” the universe. Why, or how, could there be a fine-tuner? Because we know that the universe is expanding at a precisely calculated rate to where if it were moving any faster there would be no structure. On the other side, if it were moving too slow there would be a big ‘crunch’ because everything would fall back on itself.

We know that where we live, our universe, is fine-tuned for human life.

So what are the chances of this universe happening by chance? Well, our teacher gave us a number that was HUGE. 1: billion, billion, billion billion, etc., etc., etc. He used the example of a lock. You have a 1/40 chance for getting the number right. You need 3 numbers. The odds of opening the lock were 1/64,000. No one was able to get it open…well, one student did. Everyone was shocked! They couldn’t believe it. He used that as an example to where if we are shocked by that, why aren’t people shocked with the creation of the universe.

This was one of the shorter videos. He mentioned a lot of names and what theory they held on to and some of their personal theories and findings. I’m not mentioning them because they are neither here nor there. The main idea is that our universe is so finely tuned for human life to where if one thing was off by just a fraction, we would cease to exist.
