In this lesson we continue our discussion on developing a media filter. To learn even more, all of these lessons have come from Center For Parent/Youth Understanding. If you’re new to this series, go back and learn about the 3 Core Realities from Week 1 and Week 2. Here is our 3D process.

D – Discover. This is where you are watching and listening to what worldview they are trying to teach you. As you are watching and listening, answer some of these questions: What’s the main theme or topic? What does it say about the way the world is or should be? Is it teaching right and wrong? If so, how is it being determined? What values and beliefs are they teaching? Who or what is being glorified?

D- Discern. What does this mean? Well, it’s the practice of looking more closely at what you discovered and figuring out if those things God says are good, true, and right verses what is wrong, evil, and false.  To do this you need to take your findings in the DISCOVER stage and compare it to God’s word.

D – Decide. Time to decide if this is worth you time and money. Does it reflect a Christian worldview? Does it draw you closer to Christ? If yes, enjoy. If not, ask yourself if you should be watching or listening to it. And should you support that artist with your time and money. You also need to decide if it has ministry value. Can you use that media piece to point other to Christ?
