What is ‘respect’?
It’s giving other the value they deserve. This is something I truly believe we struggle with. We lack respect. Listen to the podcast of this message to hear a story about my brother and the lack of respect we got just for being short. Another example: I London’s Westminster Abbey, many great men and women are buried in the floor of the church. Visitors walk over their tombs without hesitation…all but one. There is one tomb that no one walks over. Even the Queen at her Coronation walked around it. It is the tomb of Britain’s Unknown Soldier. If that one grave deserves that respect, why can’t we respect those that are alive and around us.

How do we show respect?

1. Appreciate Others – James 2:1 – Everyone is made by God, for God, and in the image of God. Everyone has been given certain gifts by God, too. When we can work together and respect everyone, we work together as a team able to accomplish more.
2. Obey Authority – 1 Peter 2:13 – This means we need to respect…teachers…parents…small group leader…etc. Those put in place over us deserve our respect.
3. Honor God - Revelation 4:11 – God is the most important person we need to respect
