“And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.” -Mark 15:16
Here is our job that Jesus tells us all Christians need to do…to share with everyone we talk to about Jesus! I know this is hard. It’s hard for me and I’m a pastor, but that is no excuse! This lesson focuses on how should, or how we can reach our friends.
1) Act like a Christian. Actions speak way louder than words. People should know there is something ‘different’ about us just by the way we live out life. There was a time when I was at a drum major camp in high school. I was with about 2, ooo other high schoolers from around Illinois. I had made a few friends. After camp we kept in touch via writing letters (this was before email and cell phones). One letter asked me, “Are you a Christian?” I never once told them I was or mentioned the name of Jesus. They thought I was ‘different’. Different in a good way. I then proceeded to share my faith. Whether or not they ever gave their life to Christ I don’t know. But the point is that the way we act says more than our words.
“Even children are known by the way they act,
whether their conduct is pure, and whether it is right.” Proverbs 20:11
2) Begin to pray for opportunities. If you don’t have anyone in your friendship circle that doesn’t believe in Jesus, pray that God will bring someone to you. I prayed that one day, and a week later…I was hanging out regularly with a non-Christian. I try to act like a Christian around them and invite them to different things our church does. When we pray, things happen!
“Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.” Ephesians 5:16-17
3) Communicate with Love. Speak the truth in love. Remember that there is a difference between telling people about Jesus and judging them. Our job is not to judge the unbeliever. Our job is to love them and share with them the saving power of Jesus! Be sure to love them!
“If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13:3
CHALLENGES
1) If you have a Facebook page, each week put in your status something about youth group and/or church. Invite all your facebook friends to come.
2) Friendship Evangelism Challenge. We have in our ministry a card you can fill out the participate in this. You write down the names of your friends you are going to reach out to. We hold you accountable to that.
