This is a question that has been asked for a long time and in a variety of ways. Like, “If God is so loving why would he let bad things happen to me?”

To put it simply, God leaves room for us to be human. See we are made in the image of God. We are special because of that fact. We are free to make our own choices, good and bad. First, let’s look at Adam & Eve. Why? Because it all started from them. They freely chose to do wrong when they ate the fruit from the tree God told them not to eat from. Because of their choice, the bad choice, God punished them. These are their punishments…Sexual Tension, Birth Pains, Working for food, Death. God, in his goodness, allows us to make choices. If God were to force us to do things His way He would stop being God. Check out this verse.

God will not reach down and rescue us by removing us from painful situations. This is because He allows us to choose our own path in life. See, some of our pain is because of some choices we made. Other pain comes from the choices others made and it effected us. Again, remember that God gave EVERYONE moral freedom.

We may never know why God allowed painful things to happen to us. We will find out when we meet Him face to face and have the opportunity to get our answer. I want to end with 2 great verses.

“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” James 1:2-4

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” Romans 8:28
